With Baltimore Orioles catcher Samuel Basallo nursing an abdominal injury, the club selected the contract of catcher Sam Huff from Triple-A Norfolk.
Basallo was at designated hitter for the Orioles on Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays when he went down on one knee following a swing attempt. He was ruled out with abdominal discomfort with an MRI on Saturday morning coming back clean.
Basallo, who is batting .273 with nine home runs and 26 RBIs in 52 games, was considered available as a pinch hitter in Saturday's game.
Huff, 28, played three games with the Orioles in April, going 2-for-9 with an RBI. In parts of six major league seasons, Huff is a career .246 hitter with 12 home runs and 25 RBIs in 101 games for the Texas Rangers (2020, 2022-24), San Francisco Giants (2025) and Orioles.
To make room on the active roster and the 40-man roster for Huff, utility man Weston Wilson was designated for assignment. Wilson, 31, is a career .240 hitter with 10 home runs and 32 RBIs in 119 games for the Philadelphia Phillies (2023-25) and Orioles.
