DHAKA, Bangladesh - The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) is providing more than Tk2.3 crore in emergency funding to help flood-affected families and communities in Bangladesh.
The assistance is being provided in response to unprecedented rainfall and catastrophic flooding in northern Bangladesh.
"Some of these areas have not seen flood waters like this in over 120 years," U.S. Embassy Charge d'Affaires Helen LaFave said Wednesday. The United States continues to support the government and people of Bangladesh during these difficult times, and we will work with our partners on the ground to provide critical assistance to people in the areas most affected by the flood."
Over the last 50 years, the United States has provided more than $8 billion in assistance to Bangladesh.
In just one year, USAID provided more than $320 million in humanitarian assistance and improved people's lives in Bangladesh through programs that increase food security and economic potential, strengthen health and education, help advance institutions and practices, protect the natural environment, and increase climate resilience.
