The Vegas Golden Knights fired coach Peter DeBoer on Monday.
DeBoer, the franchise's second head coach, was hired on Jan. 15, 2020, after Gerard Gallant was fired. He compiled a 98-50-12 record in three seasons.
After reaching the Stanley Cup playoffs in each of DeBoer's first two seasons, the Golden Knights missed the postseason for the first time in the team's five-year history in 2021-22.
"We would like to thank Pete DeBoer for his commitment to the Vegas Golden Knights over the past three seasons," Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said in a news release. "Since joining the organization, Pete and his staff have guided us through some of the most unique and challenging circumstances we've witnessed since our franchise entered the NHL. After lengthy discussions over the last two weeks, we believe that a new coach will put us in the best position to succeed next season."
DeBoer, 53, has an overall record of 513-379-123 as a head coach with the Florida Panthers, New Jersey Devils, San Jose Sharks and Golden Knights.
He had one year remaining on his contract.
Vegas lost to the Dallas Stars in the conference finals in 2020 and fell to the Montreal Canadiens in the NHL semifinals in 2021.
