AUSTIN, Texas: Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced that beginning next week face masks will no longer be needed to be worn and businesses can reopen without restrictions.
With this announcement, Texas will have the fewest Covid restrictions among all U.S. states.
"It is now time to open Texas 100%," Abbott said during a press conference.
The ending of restrictions in Texas comes as COVID-19 infections have greatly dropped worldwide, as well as in the United States.
A Reuters review of data indicates that some 68,240 new cases have been reported, on average, each day this week, a drop of 75 percent in the United States.
Since the pandemic began, the United States has recorded 28,681,793 infections and 513,721 coronavirus-related deaths.
