Help the children | Our Story: I offer my home to sibling groups who are in the "system" so they can stay together as a family after suffering the loss of their parents. Mine is a long term, or “forever” home for children whose homes and hearts have been broken.
I've taught kindergarten through high school, as well as being a special education teacher. I have been a therapeutic foster parent to troubled teenage girls and young women, and taught in a "lock-up" residential school for boys (grade 6 through age 22). I was also a dorm parent at a private boarding school where I lived with 12 teenage daughters, in addition to my own child.
I gave up my teaching job and came to Texas to start a dream for children. I have gone through all the certification and licensing requirements and am currently a "waiting" parent, and will be starting my new family any day now (January 2012). I am a teacher and a mother who sees a home for children where they will feel safe in every way and know that they are loved for who they are.
The problem is that my car is not big enough to accommodate more than three children, but my home and my heart have room for more. We need a van, or a multi-seat vehicle!
The Impact: Getting the van is only the first step in our plan. Our immediate plans include: school support, art programs, performing arts, recreation and sports, and pets to love and nurture. The impact we can have in the future is to make dreams come true and open a large home to accommodate many sibling groups with room to nurture the "whole child". This home will have a large private yard to play outside safely, a swimming pool, an area for llamas and barnyard animals, and gardening.
The most important, and immediate, impact we will have is to offer a home with a family to love and grow up with.
We have the education and experience to make something wonderful happen for "broken" children, and pray that the right people cross our path and offer assistance. We are in the process of becoming a non-profit home for children, and welcome anyone who wants to sponsor or get involved with that part of our dream.
What We Need & What You Get: This campaign has been launched to acquire a vehicle to accommodate six children. We need enough money to buy something that is safe and roomy enough for everyone. A van or multi-seat Suburban-type vehicle would be perfect. In pricing used vehicles through dealers and on-line searches, $15,000 is a figure that will get something used, but new enough to have a number of life-time years still left on it.
OR... if you have a vehicle you'd like to donate, we'd be absolutely thrilled to accept your gift!
If, in the end we have excess funds, they will be applied toward the next phase of our dream for children.
In the event we don't receive our full "nut", we will find something less expensive but still functional.
Other Ways You Can Help: Please get the word out about our campaign by sharing our dream with your friends through word of mouth, email, and by using the "share" tools!
